Empowering One Health Warriors: Ms. Sutra Diyana's SEAOHUN Scholarship Journey

Ms. Sutra Diyana is one of the successful scholars who received SEAOHUN Scholarship for 2 consecutive years (2021-2023 academic years) to pursue Master of Epidemiology at Diponegoro University, Indonesia. Ms. Sutra Diyana’s study in the field of epidemiology has vastly broadened and deepened her knowledge and understanding of disease prevention and control. Through her research, she has gained valuable insights of the surveillance system in Indonesia, particularly its significance in early disease detection and outbreak potential. Ms. Diyana emphasizes the importance of cross-sectoral coordination and collaboration in addressing health issues and detecting diseases early. She highlights the need for engagement and communication between various sectors, including animal health, human health, local government, farmers, and the community, emphasizing the application of the One Health approach.


The knowledge and experiences gained through her research hold immense value to Ms. Diyana, as she aspires to share them with others as a lecturer. She believes that by conveying tangible descriptions of becoming an epidemiologist, the role they play, the current surveillance system, and the importance of collaboration across sectors, she can contribute to educating future professionals in the field. Her studies have also helped her develop vital communication skills through interviews with officers and stakeholders, expanding her network across diverse backgrounds, and fostering ongoing relationships with informants who provide critical knowledge.

SEAOHUN has contributed to her tuition fees, living expenses, book fees, and other study-related costs. Furthermore, SEAOHUN has offered opportunities for her and her peers to SEAOHUN 2022 International Conference. Ms. Diyana acknowledges the positive impact of SEAOHUN's support and expresses her hope for the organization's continued dedication to One Health and the implementation of programs that contribute to a healthier planet.
